Our very own, Kathy Kae, author of the new book “Naajimiijimedaa! Let’s Find Food” gave an interview on the Ron Jolly Show out of Traverse City. She discusses this foraging book, which is an introduction to finding forty different foods such as berries, leeks, mushrooms and wild rice, to name just a few. The author explains how to harvest, process, prepare and store them. She also includes recipes using these foods and individual tribal citizens’ personal memories and current stories about harvesting them.

In addition, the Ojibwe language is provided for each food and includes a link to an online pronunciation  guide created by language instructor, Margaret Noodin.

About the Author: Kathy Kae has a master’s degree in U.S. history with a focus on Great Lakes Anishinaabe history. She is an adopted citizen of the Burt Lake Band of Ottawa &Chippewa Indians and is the director of the Traditional Foods Project and a grant writer. She is also a black ash basket weaver and is passionate about passing traditional knowledge on for future generations.
