Fry Bread

6 cups flour
8-10 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk
1 teaspoon sugar
oil for frying

Mix flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together. Add milk a little at a time, stirring to desired consistency. Use your hands rather than a spoon to get a smooth mixture. Let dough set for one hour or longer.

Make a small ball of dough with your hands. Gently flatten on floured board. A hole in the middle of the dough will help the bread fry evenly.

Carefully place dough in hot cooking oil in fry pan until golden brown, flipping bread half way through to brown both sides. Removed bread from oil with tongs, draining excess oil while removing. Place on paper towels to drain.

Note: If bread does not raise, the oil is not hot enough. Often the first batch does not puff because of this.
